Ardley Hanemann is President of Cabrini High School. Cabrini, an all girl school located on Moss Street across from Bayou St. John, has a long history in the Crescent City. The school's origins trace to 1892, when Archbishop Francis Janssens requested that Mother Cabrini come to New Orleans to help the City's many Italian immigrants. Mother Cabrini, who was the first woman to establish a missionary order of women, was canonized in 1946, the first saint in America. In 1959, Sister Aloysius, a Missionary Sister of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, opened Cabrini High School in the buildings that originally housed Mother Cabrini's Sacred Heart Orphan Asylum. Today, although only one member of Mother Cabrini's order works at the school, Ardley notes that the tradition of service and Catholic values are still very much in place at Cabrini. In this podcast, he tells us about this fine New Orleans school and explains the connection between the Pitot House and Cabrini 's 1965 expansion.
