Kelly Pearson
Kelly A. Pearson is the Flag Queen for the Creole Osceolas Mardi Gras Indian tribe. On August 14, 2016, Kelly will receive the Queens’ Choice Award at the 18th Annual Mardi Gras Hall of Fame Induction, Awards and Memorial Ceremony. In this podcast, Kelly explains that the Mardi Gras Indian tradition goes back to the early days of Carnival in New Orleans. She describes the importance of being a Mardi Gras Indian, and expresses the gratitude and pride she feels in being honored as the Flag Queen. Being a part of the Mardi Gras Indian tradition is something participants take very seriously, and respect for those who have come before them is a large part of New Orleans’ unique Mardi Gras Indian culture. To learn more about this very special celebration of the Indian tribes’ pride and pageantry, visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/847533678713540/.
