Vincent
Caire

Vincent Caire is the historian for the New Orleans Lakefront Airport. According to Vincent, the airport, completed in 1933, was initially called the Shushan Airport. Vincent explains who Abraham Shushan was and describes how the airport came to carry his name. Regarding the airport's distinctive design motifs, "This was one of the first Art Deco airports in the United States", Vincent notes. Until 1946, the lakefront facility served as the commercial airport for the City of New Orleans. Later, a second airport, then called Moisant Field (now Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport), began servicing all commercial carriers for the Crescent City. Vincent talks about some of the notable people who landed at the New Orleans Lakefront AIrport, including Amelia Earhart. He also shares a very interesting story about a musical group called the Beatles, when the foursome visited New Orleans in 1964.
